John Trotter McGuffie

John McGuffie was born in Glasgow on 21 March 1915, son of H. G. McGuffie and Jeanie McGuffie (née Munro), of Glasgow. He served on HMS Fishguard which was a sloop of the Banff class. She was built by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation in Quincy, Massachusetts, USA and launched on the 28 September 1927 as US Coastguard Cutter Tahoe. She was commissioned to the Royal Navy under the lend-lease scheme on the 30 April 1941. John became ill and was hospitalised at Mearnskirk Emergency Services Hospital in Newton Mearns where he was diagnosed as suffering from bronchopneumonia and septicaemia. John died on 12 August 1941 aged 26 and his death was registered in Newton Mearns. He is buried in Paisley (Hawkhead) Cemetery - Grave Reference: Sec. H. Grave 420.
