Unit: 1/8th Battalion Princess Louise’s (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders)
Rank: Private
Service Number: 21042

Neil, brother of John, was born in Easterhouse, Glasgow in 1898, son of Neil and Marion Keith McLellan. Neil's father was born in Campsie and his mother was born in Jura. It is likely that she had come to Campsie to work in the print mills. In 1901 the family lived in Campsie where Neil’s father was employed as a labourer, but by 1911 they were living in Newton Mearns at Gateside, Old Mearns Road. At this time, Neil's father was employed as a roadman and Neil was still at school.

Neil was killed in France on 16 April 1918, aged 20, and is buried in Aire Communal Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France - Grave reference IV. F. 8 and is also commemorated on Mearns Parish Kirk War Memorial. (see also William Raeside)
