George, brother of Thomas and Andrew, was born in Newton Mearns in 1893, the fourth son of Andrew and Mary Hamilton. His father was a starch maker at the bleachfield and the family lived at Low Row Netherplace, the site of the bleachworks. George's father died in1907. In the 1911 census George was living with his mother at 89 Netherplace, Newton Mearns and was employed as a bleacher.

George was killed in Belgium on 14 April 1918, aged 25. He is commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium - Panel 5 and on Mearns Parish Kirk War Memorial.
